Design Series III. Figure in Marble

I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.

In Michaelangelo’s lifetime, he created works where figures appear to be emerging out of stone. The idea he put forth was that the final form, the perfect art, was always there, and that it was his task to liberate it.

Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.

I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.

As people and business-owners, we are always exploring and honing in on our ideas and understanding of our ourselves and business. It’s immensely satisfying when we find that form that truly just works for us. So often, I build a product, and only know in hindsight why it’s this version that just works.

YOUR TURN

  • What’s the essential or salient idea?

  • What’s effortless and pleasant?

  • Is there any aspect now that does not reflect your true intuition or isn’t what you’d really like? Speak your truth. Explore which of these are conscious decisions, and which are limiting beliefs.

  • Hindsight is 20/20 - enjoy the journey!
